A delicate balance between the new and the old infuses a sense of familiarity, warmth and comfort into the space.

Breathing life into the old bones of this South Mumbai rental apartment, our task was to make the space feel like home again.

The project brief daintily ballet-ed from being a space to host get-togethers, a rental apartment, to a home for a young couple from the family with the design evolving at every pirouette.

The arrangement of the living room grants multiple independent seating options that are grouped in a way that allows interaction throughout the space and is held together by the warmth of the hardwood flooring. The muted sofabed, amoebic centre tables and forest green armchair flanked by the bar unit form the primary seating which extends into a cosy reading nook by the window. Customised wall sconces, a terrazzo dining table and leather upholstery add textural layers to the space.

The design for the bedroom is based on a twofold approach- leveraging the existing furniture by resurfacing the materials and curating objects and artefacts within the space. With a terrazzo countertop and backsplash, and muted cabinetry, the kitchen leans towards a monochromatic palette with textural layers. The design focuses on functional furniture on a backdrop of an earthy textural palette.
