Anomalia on Rani ki Vav at the Emotional City Conference: A Perspective on How to Be a Good Ancestor

At the How To Be A Good Ancestor at Emotional City 2025, held on the opening day of the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism 2025, Anomalia joined an exceptional global panel including Ma Yansong, SangYup Lee, Mi-hee Kim, Ronald Rael, Nicole Zheng and Neil Hubbard to reflect on what it truly means to design for the next 500 years. Our talk traced the emotional life of Rani ki Vav through seven human emotions from awe and belonging to reverence and hope, revealing how everyday civic infrastructure shaped by care, ritual and climate becomes timeless. On the same day, Anomalia also addressed the citizens of Seoul and presented ‘What if walls were grown, not built?’ one of 24 Walls of Public Life, showcasing our mycelium wall grown from living material. Across both platforms, the message was clear that the architecture we build today must serve people and the planet if it is to be cherished across generations.
